How to Set Up Business Email on Android
This guide shows you how to add your Hostking business email to an Android phone or tablet. The steps are similar across most Android devices — Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and others — though menu names may vary slightly depending on your phone's make and Android version.
What You'll Need
- Your email address — e.g.
you@yourdomain.com - Your email password
- Your mail server —
mail.yourdomain.com
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1 — Open your Email app
Open the built-in Email app on your Android device. This may be called Email, Mail or Samsung Email depending on your phone.
Alternatively you can use the Gmail app — see the note at the bottom of this article.
Step 2 — Add a New Account
If this is your first account the app will prompt you immediately. Otherwise tap the menu (three lines or dots) and look for Settings → Add Account or Manage Accounts → Add Account.
Step 3 — Choose Other or Manual Setup
When asked what type of account, select Other or IMAP. Do not select Gmail, Outlook or Exchange.
If you see a field asking for your email address, enter it and tap Manual Setup or Set Up Manually — this prevents the app from trying to auto-detect settings that won't work.
Step 4 — Select IMAP
When asked for account type, select IMAP (not POP3 or Exchange).
Step 5 — Enter Incoming Server Settings
Fill in the following:
- Username / Email: Your full email address — e.g.
you@yourdomain.com - Password: Your email account password
- IMAP server:
mail.yourdomain.com - Security type: SSL/TLS
- Port:
993
Tap Next.
Step 6 — Enter Outgoing Server Settings
Fill in the following:
- SMTP server:
mail.yourdomain.com - Security type: SSL/TLS
- Port:
465 - Require sign-in: Yes / Enabled
- Username: Your full email address
- Password: Your email account password
Tap Next.
Step 7 — Set Account Options
Choose how often you want your phone to sync emails — every 15 minutes is a good default. Tap Next.
Step 8 — Name the Account
Give the account a name such as "Work Email" or your business name. Enter your name as you want it to appear on outgoing emails. Tap Done.
Your inbox will now begin syncing.
Setting Up in the Gmail App Instead
The Gmail app on Android can also handle non-Gmail accounts. This is a good option if you prefer the Gmail interface.
- Open the Gmail app
- Tap your profile picture in the top right, then tap Add another account
- Select Other
- Enter your email address and tap Next
- Select Personal (IMAP)
- Enter your password and tap Next
- For the incoming server enter
mail.yourdomain.com, port993, SSL/TLS - For the outgoing server enter
mail.yourdomain.com, port465, SSL/TLS - Follow the remaining prompts to finish
Common Problems
"Cannot connect to server" on incoming settings
Make sure your server address is mail.yourdomain.com with your real domain. Check you selected SSL/TLS and port 993. Try toggling the security type between SSL/TLS and STARTTLS if one fails.
Can receive but not send
Your outgoing server settings are wrong. Go back into account settings, find SMTP/Outgoing and confirm the server is mail.yourdomain.com, port 465, SSL/TLS, with authentication enabled using your full email and password.
App keeps asking for password
Re-enter your password in the account settings. Verify it first by logging into webmail at mail.yourdomain.com to make sure it's correct.
