How to Set Up Business Email on iPhone and iPad (iOS)

This guide will walk you through adding your Hostking business email to your iPhone or iPad. The steps below work on iOS 14 and later.

What You'll Need

  • Your email address — e.g. you@yourdomain.com
  • Your email password
  • Your mail server — mail.yourdomain.com

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1 — Open Settings

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app (the grey icon with a gear).

Step 2 — Go to Mail

Scroll down and tap Mail, then tap Accounts, then tap Add Account.

Step 3 — Choose Other

You will see a list of popular email providers. Do not select Microsoft, Google or iCloud. Scroll to the bottom and tap Other.

Step 4 — Add a Mail Account

Tap Add Mail Account.

Fill in the following:

  • Name: Your name as you want it to appear on outgoing emails
  • Email: Your full email address — e.g. you@yourdomain.com
  • Password: Your email account password
  • Description: A label for this account — e.g. "Work Email" or your business name

Tap Next.

Step 5 — Select IMAP and Enter Server Details

At the top, make sure IMAP is selected (not POP).

Under Incoming Mail Server:

  • Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your email password

Under Outgoing Mail Server:

  • Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your email password

Tap Next.

Step 6 — Save

Your iPhone will verify the connection. Once verified, tap Save.

Your email account will now appear under Mail → Accounts and your inbox will begin syncing.

If Verification Fails

If your iPhone shows "Cannot Connect Using SSL" or fails to verify, tap Yes to continue without SSL temporarily, then fix the port settings manually:

  1. Go to Settings → Mail → Accounts and tap your account
  2. Tap Account at the top, then tap Advanced
  3. Set incoming port to 993 and turn on Use SSL
  4. Go back and tap SMTP, then tap your outgoing server
  5. Set outgoing port to 465 and turn on Use SSL
  6. Tap Done

Common Problems

"Cannot connect to server"
Double-check that your mail server address is spelled correctly — it should be mail. followed by your exact domain name. Also confirm the email account exists in DirectAdmin or cPanel.

iPhone keeps asking for your password
The password entered during setup may have a typo. Go to Settings → Mail → Accounts, tap your account and re-enter the password. Verify it first by logging into webmail at mail.yourdomain.com.

Emails arrive on iPhone but you can't send
Your outgoing server settings need attention. Go to Settings → Mail → Accounts → your account → SMTP and make sure the host name, username and password are all filled in correctly. The port should be 465 with SSL on.
