Hostking automatically backs up your website, files, databases and email on all shared hosting plans. Here is what you need to know about how backups work.

Shared Hosting and WordPress Hosting

What is backed up:

  • All website files in your home directory
  • All MySQL databases
  • Email accounts and messages stored on the server at the time of backup

How often:
Daily — backups run automatically every 24 hours.

How long backups are kept:
Backup data is retained for a maximum of 7 days before being replaced with the latest version. This means you can restore from any point within the last 7 days.

How to restore:
You can restore your own files, databases and emails at any time using JetBackup in DirectAdmin. See our guide: How to Restore Your Website from a Backup in DirectAdmin (JetBackup)

Restores can also be requested via a support ticket at my.hostking.host if you need assistance.

VPS Servers

For VPS customers, Hostking cannot guarantee backups. We strongly recommend all VPS customers set up their own offsite backup solution to protect against data loss or hardware failure.

Managed VPS plans include weekly backups — check your plan details for specifics.

Important Notes

  • Hostking does not guarantee backups — while we make every effort to maintain reliable daily backups, we strongly recommend keeping your own separate backup copies of important files and databases, stored on your own computer or external storage
  • Email arriving after a backup and downloaded before the next backup runs will not be included in that backup cycle
  • Cancelled accounts are retained for up to 30 days before being permanently deleted
  • In the event of a server-level disaster, full server backups are stored on a weekly basis as an additional safety net
